TELECOMWORLDWIRE-22 March 2004-Finnish mobile phone exports up to 29 million units in 2003 - report(C)1994-2004 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

Finnish Customs has reportedly said that Finnish mobile telephone exports increased to 29m units in 2003, up by 3m units compared to 2002.

The monetary value of mobile phone exports had reportedly declined to EUR5bn, down 2% year-on-year. The decline was attributed to falling average prices of handsets.

Finnish high-technology exports for 2003 reportedly totalled some EUR9.28bn, down from EUR9.75bn in 2002.

The largest importer of Finnish high technology was the United Arab Emirates with over EUR1.0bn, including 5.4m mobile phones. Europe still remained the most important market area for Finnish high-tech exporters.

Finnish telecomms solutions provider Nokia had a major share of the technology imports, reported the Finnish news agency STT.
