Fined for racial abuse of Scot.

A MAN has been fined after racially abusing a Scottish police sergeant.

Gary Gaskin, 42, of London Road, Holyhead called Sergeant Reilly a "Scottish ****" at Holyhead police station in March.

Dianne Williams, prosecuting, said Sergeant Reilly was left feeling "sickened" by the comment which he saw as an "attack on his culture". Gaskin pleaded guilty to causing racially aggravated distress.

The incident happened after Sergeant Reilly had gone to the cells in Holyhead to give Gaskin a message about his solicitor.

Myrddin Owens, defending, said that Gaskin lost it because he felt he was being denied his right to see a solicitor. He added he did not excuse his client's behaviour but that he was being "deprived his rights".

He added: "I know Sergeant Reilly and I'm surprised he was so shocked, he has much thicker skin in my experience."

Gaskin was fined pounds 92.
