Fine choral work; Music.

HIS sons both have big names in the music industry, but William Lloyd Webber was a fine composer from whom Andrew and Julian Lloyd Webber doubtless inherited their musical gifts.

On Good Friday (March 29) there will be an opportunity in Elland to hear music written by William Lloyd Webber who was organist of Westminster Central Hall from the late Fifties through until his death in 1982. There will be a performance at Southgate Methodist Church, Elland (7.30pm) of his Cantata, The Saviour. The piece was composed in 1960 and though not frequently performed is regarded as a fine romantic choral work.

The soloists are well known local musicians.

The tenor is Roy Sykes who was the soloist with Halifax Choral Society four years ago when they presented Olivet to Calvary.

John Ramsdin, who has had a long career singing with various local choirs and amateur operatic societies, sings the baritone solo role.

The organ soloist is Andrew Jacobs who has been the organist and choir master of Southgate Church for 25 years and is a past president of the Halifax Organists' ' Association. The conductor is Janet Revill, who is the choir mistress at Lindwell as well as the musical director of the Elland Male Voice Choir. There is no admission charge though there will be a retiring collection for Overgate Hospice.
