Find your niche: business opportunities available in conventions and conferences.

According to the Detroit Metro Convention and Visitor's Bureau, there are already 100 conventions and conferences scheduled in the Detroit Region in the next 10 years. Haven't had time to figure out how your business can fit in? Cobo may provide the space for the NAIAS, but companies provide the rest. Here are some ideas of how your business can fit in.

What you don't see here

* Equipment rental, such as computers, laptops, walkie talkies, copiers and projectors

* Service-oriented businesses, such as catering operations

* PR and communications opportunities

* Registration services and software

* Logistics teams

* Vendor kiosks

Video walls are a type of new technology that's utilized at most conferences.

Special flooring is built to suit the needs of exhibitors.

Temporary lighting is brought in by production companies.

Plasma screens and other high-tech equipment rental is high in demand.

Signs are used throughout the display area and present opportunities for writers, graphic designers and printers.

The North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) consistently draws a large crowd and is one of Detroit's annual conventions.
