Find Out How Jim Gordon, Valerie Vale's Romance Will Develop In 'Gotham' Season 3.

Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) from "Gotham" is not looking for love this Season 3, but he cannot help but be attracted to newcomer Valerie Vale (Jamie Chung) - a relentless reporter who always has an eye out for a scoop.

McKenzie told ( TV Line that while Jim, who is now a bounty hunter, is drowning his sorrows in his favorite watering hole, he comes face-to-face with Valerie. Valerie offers him a deal he cannot refuse - she will help him track down Fish Mooney (Jada Pinkett Smith), but he has to bring her along.

"Jim likes that she's so aggressive, that she's so unapologetic," the actor said. "She almost literally slaps him back into taking stock of his life, and that's something that a guy in his position can appreciate."

But McKenzie said that Jim cannot evade his destiny as a cop for too long. Sure, he lost the love of his life, Dr. Lee Thompkins (Morena Baccarin), to another guy. Sure, Gotham City did not treat him well.

"Jim may be at a low point, but the greater goings-on in Gotham with the monsters, the near total anarchy that has manifested, means he's not going to be able to stay out of it for too long," said McKenzie. "He will have to get his feet back in the fire and get back on that horse."

Meanwhile, McKenzie told ( Blastr that one relationship Jim does not plan on fixing is the one he shared with his ex-girlfriend Barbara Kean (Erin Richards).

"I don't think the relationship can be healed; I do think there's a chance of personal redemption for all of these characters no matter how villainous they become," he said. "In terms of Barbara, I don't think she'll suddenly become this beacon of light. She's not going to become Michelle Obama or something like that, but I don't think anyone is irredeemable in Gotham."

For now, Barbara will be busy running her own club with Tabitha Galavan (Jessica Lucas) called The Sirens. "Barbara has more ownership of what she's doing in Season 3," Richards told ( Comic Book . "Because of the club that we have, we're much more integral to the running of Gotham City and its sort of underworld. So she's kind of owning her space a bit more, which is fantastic."

"Gotham" will return on Monday, Sept. 19, at 8 p.m. on Fox.
