Financial issues to be reviewed.

MANAMA: Finance Minister Shaikh Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa yesterday left for Syria to attend annual meetings of pan-Arab financial agencies.

These include the Arab Monetary Fund, Arab Economic and Social Development Fund, Arab Investment and Export Credit Guarantee Corporation, Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa and the Arab Authority for Agricultural Investment and Development.

The delegations will discuss financial and technical aid packages for development projects in the Arab world.

They will also spotlight co-ordination on encouraging intra-Arab investments, promoting partnership with the private sector in spearheading development strategies.

The minister will also attend the second annual meeting of Arab finance ministers who will discuss economic and financial developments in the Arab and international arenas. They will also co-ordinate stances towards global financial institutions, including the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund.

An initiative led by the World Bank to promote the millennium development goals in the Arab countries will also be spotlighted.

Bahrain delegation includes assistant under-secretary for economic affairs Yusuf Abdulla Humood and other senior officials.
