Final voter lists likely to be published by May: ECP.

ISLAMABAD, January 11, 2012 (Balochistan Times): The final voter lists (Final Electoral Rolls) are likely to be published by the end of May as NADRA and ECP have redoubled their efforts in this regard, said an official of Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) here. He said National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has assured to complete the publication of Preliminary Electoral Rolls (PERs) by January 30. After that ECP needs another 40 days to publish the final voter lists. After the handing over of FERs by NADRA the ECP will establish 55,000 display centres in mosques, schools, post offices and other places of 130 districts across the country. The main objective of the display centers would be to correct mistakes, register objections in the Preliminary Electoral Rolls (PERs) within 21 days, he said. The Display Centers, consisting of one official each are likely to be established in second week of February. The preliminary electoral rolls would be displayed in the centers for 21 days. Each center has been mandated to enlist the names of the voters, whose names have been missed erroneously or otherwise in the voter lists, he said. Revising Authorities are being appointed to hear the objections in voter lists. The revising authorities are likely to decide the disputes within a fortnight. Candidates and political parties can obtain voter lists from the display centers by paying money, he said. It is for the first time in the history of country that such electoral rolls database is being prepared to eliminate the possibility of double and bogus voter lists. For door to door verification campaign the country had been divided into 145000 census blocks. One Census Block contains 200 to 250 houses or 1200 to 1500 people. According to ECP data about 80 million voters were registered in Draft Electoral Roll (DER-2011), while NADRA had augmented bout 30 million voters. Similarly, 30 million voters could not be unverified through FERs of 2007. While in Punjab 40 million, Sindh about 10 million, KP about 10 million, Balochistan 3 million and in Fata 1.2 million voters have been registered in DERs-2011.
