Final bow for rockers Edward H; 40th anniversary show captured by TV cameras.

FOR many, without a shadow of a doubt, the highlight of the Denbigh and District National Eisteddfod was a concert by legendary ''''70s group Edward H Dafis. Forty years since they performed there for the first time, Edward H were back in Denbigh, but nobody had foreseen the excitement the gig would create.

Seven thousand people flooded through the gates of the Maes on the Friday evening all with the same purpose, to see Edward H perform.

As well as the original fans who wanted to relive the ''''70s, the crowd was a mix of young people and children - who would ironically experience the band playing live for the first time during their last ever gig.

If you missed the actual event, fear not, because the TV cameras were there to capture the unique atmosphere.

As well as concert highlights, Gig Olaf Edward H takes us backstage before the event to sample the pre-gig nerves and the anticipation, plus the adrenaline and buzz of the concert itself, and the elated response of the band and crowd GIG EDWARD S4C, nos 9pm afterwards. It was a night to remember.

" The evening took a whole year to arrange - and I hope that the recording has succeeded in conveying the atmosphere and elation of the night which was a very emotional event for us as a band," says Cleif H DAFIS Harpwood, lead singer of Edward H Dafis. " We had such a welcome from the thousands who came to Sadwrn, see us. It was an unforgettable experience and we''''re extremely grateful to everyone who attended for their enthusiasm and support over the years." The size of the crowd and their enthusiasm took the band back to the gigs they played during the '''' 70s.

Although Cleif believes that the Welsh music scene is in very good health at the moment, he hopes that the Edward H concert will signal a revival for big events and gigs.

" I''''m proud of the fact that events like this can still attract thousands of people together to celebrate their Welshness. I hope, as a result of the Edward H''''s 40th anniversary concert, we''''ll see a revival of festivals and weekends such as the Tafodau Tan and Gig 50 Cymdeithas yr Iaith events once again, and held annually," says Cleif.

Production company Rondo Media worked with the band and the National Eisteddfod to put on the concert, and they are also responsible for the broadcast on S4C.
