Filters eliminate hands-on preparation steps.

The ready-to-use ProWeigh filters from Environmental Express are suited for total suspended solids (TSS) and volatile suspended solids (VSS) and eliminate all hands-on filter preparation steps, which account for half of the time needed for TSS and VSS analysis. Eliminating these steps allows the analyst to perform the method more quickly and move on to other important tasks. Prior to weighing, the 1.5-[micro]m borosilicate glass fiber filters are vacuum rinsed three times with 20-mL aliquots of reagent-grade water to remove loose fibers, and then they are dried at 105 C (or 550 C for volatiles), cooled, and desiccated for 24 hours. Preparation steps used for the filters follow all Standard Methods requirements. After preparation, the filters are weighed robotically to the nearest 0.1 mg. Each filter is then transferred to an aluminum dish labeled with the final filter weight and an ID number. The label also includes the data in barcode format for easy scanning.
