Film line-up is revealed for Velvet Coalmine festival.

VELVET Coalmine has announced the line-up of films hand-picked by Manic Street Preacher Nicky Wire and Bafta-winning director Kieran Evans to be screened at the music and arts festival which takes place in Blackwood next week.

Screenings will be held on Saturday, September 5, and Sunday, September 6, from 11am until late, at the Black Sheep.

The selections span various genres and decades. The films are open to all and priced at just PS1 per film per person.

The films selected by Nicky and director Kieran Evans were among those that inspired the Manics' bass player and the film director, who was awarded a Bafta for his movie Kelly + Victor.

With nine films in total, screenings on Saturday include Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, Submarine, Rumblefish and Taxi Driver. Sunday features The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner, Naked, The Medusa Touch, Birdy and Apocalypse Now.

Alongside Nicky and Kieran's selections, there's also a special showing of the Don Letts' film Punk Attitude, followed by an exclusive Q&A with the man himself during the Saturday line-up.

Iain Richards, director of Velvet Coalmine, said: "Films played an important role in shaping the Manic Street Preachers and for Nicky Wire to curate the film festival in Blackwood is a special moment for Velvet Coalmine and everyone connected with the town." Now into its second year and billed as "a festival of writing, rock 'n' roll and coal", Velvet Coalmine will take over Blackwood between September 1-6 with a hugely expanded line-up. While literary, music industry, art and children's events take place on the weekdays all around the town, the weekend sees a three-day bill at the town's newly refurbished Miners' Institute.

There will also be a fringe event featuring a host of rising Welsh music talent.
