Fighting for peace.

Let us not forget that our most recent charge into Afghanistan followed a cry to 'kill the scumbags,' in the words of General Rick Hillier. There followed a lot of boastful, foolish talk about us being in their backyard and kicking over their barbecue, and similar moronic metaphors.

The Afghans are more than battle-hardened. Every Afghan has known conflict since he was on the teat. The Canadians think they can have a cup of tea in the morning, call in an air strike in the afternoon, and go to bed having won hearts and minds. It doesn't work that way. Yes, we are in their backyard and they are going to fight us the way we would fight them if they were in ours. Let them find their own way to a peaceful future, and let us bring our Canadian men and women home. Every Canadian life lost in Afghanistan is a life wasted.
