Fifth Annual National Black Women's Life Balance & Wellness Conference to be Held at Spelman College.

Atlanta, GA, September 12, 2015 --(PR.com)-- On September 18 - 19, 2015, Black women from around the U.S. will come together at Spelman College to consider various ways to maintain a healthy life balance in light of the challenges they deal with. The Fifth Annual National Black Women's Life Balance and Wellness Conference will allow participants to learn from each other and create new ways to cultivate wholeness through conscious acts of healing. Robin D. Stone, Founding Editor-in-Chief of Essence.com, is the keynote speaker.

Founded by Dr. Shanesha Brooks-Tatum, founding vice president of Creative Research Solutions, LLC, the conference is geared toward women of African descent who are seeking life balance and personal wellness in their lives. In this space, Black women have the opportunity to network with each other, build collaborations, and join a forum in which to share their own areas of expertise.

At the conference, Robin D. Stone will premiere her film THICK: Black Women Weigh in on Body Awareness, Food, Stress, and Self-Care. In addition, Toni Carey, co-founder of Black Girls RUN! will share her perspectives, and Byllye Avery, founder of the Black Women's Health Imperative, will receive the 2015 Women's Wellness and Human Rights Lifetime Achievement Award.

This year's conference theme is Wellness Renewal: Celebrating a New Era for Black Women's Well-Being. "With so much talk about health disparities in black communities, wellness practices are often overshadowed. We aim to celebrate the strides Black women have made in cultivating self-care rituals that preserve their spirits and center their well-being," Brooks-Tatum said. "It's my wish that women who attend this conference will find the tools and the inspiration to be self-care enthusiasts. I invite you to come and celebrate you!," shared Dr. Nicole Collier Harp, conference co-chair.

Transformational workshops, performances, engaging speakers, and storytelling are included in this year's Life Balance Conference. According to Hakikah Shamsiden, conference-co-chair, a focus on wellness is on the rise. "Healthy living was for a few; now it's a part of the national mindset. This conference is a necessary refueling and refreshing station on the road to wellness," Shamsiden shared.

In addition to Ms. Stone's keynote, for the first time this year attendees can expect a wellness meditation room, which past attendees have requested. "With topics such as body image, abuse, trauma and others arising at a conference like ours, participants will finally be able to benefit from a quiet space to reflect, journal, meditate, and otherwise be present with their thoughts and emotions," Dr. Brooks-Tatum said.
