Fieldcrest polishes its jewels.

NEW YORK - Fieldcrest Cannon's bath division is changing its color tones to "jewel stones."

"The industry is earth-toned to death," said Tom McElroy, director of fashion bet design. That's why Fieldcrest is launching what McElroy says is a luxury color change. In the mill's Charisma line, colorways for the solid towels will increase from 17 to 22. The Earth S Tones are: aquamarine, yellow quartz, limestone, coralstone, amethyst, sapphire and peridot green. Towels measuring 27 by 52 retail at $19.99.

Keepsakes are Charisma towels with borders. Greek Key, Floral and Rope (iron-work, grid-work) all retail at $19.99 for 27 by 52 and come in both white and ivory colorways. Also included - Monogram, a bridal look towel with border.

In all of Fieldcrest's lines an emphasis has been placed upon matching ceramics in unique shapes and designs.

Charisma accessories include a collection of lead-cut crystal to coordinate with everything in the Charisma line: two-piece carafe set, tissue dispenser, toothbrush holder, soap dish, vanity jar, perfume bottle and a votive and mirrored vanity tray.

This is the first tame officials are introducing Court of Versailles the bath division. A 72 by 72 panel curtain is made up of lace with detailing such as flowers, point d'esprit stitches and Venise lace for elegant framing effects. Liners will be included with these curtains which are available in both white and ivory.

Accessories include lace porcelain with pattern relief and open work. Also included is an oval rug in 100 percent nylon overtuft. Towels in this collection are currently being priced. There are four patterns: a 27 by 54 Versailles lace in white and ivory which appears as though it is applied. Also included is a 30 by 54 Venise embellishment "Venise lace is the finest," McElroy noted. Color-ways are white, ivory, coral mist and cloud blue to go with shower curtains. Next, is an applique embellishment with satin colors to match the terry. Finally, there is a sculptured lace jacquard with point d'esprit towel in those same colors.

Understated drama may sound like an oxymoron but this description sums up Fieldcrest's Ellen Tracy bath line. Paisley is the working name for the shower curtain, towels and rug combination. The curtain is a panel of vertical stripes and paisley medallion borders on a 230 count, 100 percent cotton fabric. There are three monochromatic stripe towels with mitcheline borders retailing at $16.99. Colors include red, navy and empire green.

Designers are adding three new colors to Ellen Tracy's Savannah line. Pearl, silver and sage have been added to last year's gold. The Filigree towels are also $16.99.

In Vittadini, bath offerings in Halifax include a delicately rendered gray floral inset panel shower curtain with 4-inch framed borders of rose buds on all sides. The fabric is a blend of 50/50 cotton/polyester. Decal ceramics of small rose buds on a white background comprise the accessories, and the Linen Classic towel colorway is light gray (pearl gray on white). A27 by 52 retails at $16.99.

Other additions to Vittadini include Winston, a sporty houndstooth panel with 4-inch black border on all sides and West Highland, a 100 percent cotton yarn-dyed traditional plaid in blue and green. Towels, accessories and rugs all come with these lines.

Shower curtains in Royal Velvet's Contemplation feature a printed woven texture and bold border in linen/black, green mist/indigo and chamois /indigo. The linen/black towels have received the best reaction, according to marketing officials. Other colorways are cinnamon/black, green mist/indigo and smoke/wine. Towels retail at $14.99.

In Leaf Stripe, shower curtains will have a blot-printing design. Panels consist of a natural leaf stripe in hues of green mist, linen and prairie peach and will coordinate with Royal Velvet towels and rug colors. Shower curtains are made up of a 50/50 polyester/cotton blend. Ceramic accessories depict falling leaves with matte finish handpainted stripes to coordinate with the shower curtain.

The Fieldcrest brand is making a contemporary statement in the bathroom. In Copenhagen, patchwork is the theme featuring brush strokes of gingham and leaves in blues and moss greens comprise an environmental artistic approach. Curtains are 50/50 polyester/cotton and accessories include some unique ceramics shapes in multiple colors of raku finish, with highlights of gold filigree.

Fieldcrest is making great use of terra cotta. Shower curtains in Mediterranean Resort feature images of an exotic resort on a 50/50 polyester/cotton fabric.

Accessories are presented in bright handpainted horizontal banded stripes on a terra cotta base with dark, blue brush strokes on the inside.
