Fiberstars Announces Acquisition of FibreOptics International Inc.

FREMONT, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 31, 1998--Fiberstars Inc. (NASDAQ:FBST) announced today that it has acquired the assets of FibreOptics International Inc., a Seattle-based manufacturer and marketer of fiber optic-lighted signs.

The acquisition is not expected to be material to this year's results, but is expected to be synergistic with Fiberstars' current commercial lighting business and contribute to its future growth.

FibreOptics International designs, manufactures and installs special effect lighting using fiber optic technology. Their animated signs are used in casinos, retail stores and themed entertainment venues.

On-site FibreOptics International installations have included special-effect lighting for Universal Studios, Disney Entertainment and AMC. Other customers include Anheuser-Busch, Carnival Cruise Lines, Federal Sign, Pepsi-Cola, Burger King, the Smithsonian, the National Parks Department, Warner Brothers and others.

"FibreOptics International has a reputation for excellence in the sign and special effects industries. It is complimentary to Fiberstars' market-leading fiber optic commercial lighting business," said David Ruckert, Fiberstars president and CEO. "For several years, Fiberstars has been working with FibreOptics International on national accounts where both companies' product lines can be beneficially applied. It makes sense to combine the product and marketplace strengths of our two companies in view of the increasing business opportunities for fiber optics in the commercial lighting and sign markets."

Ruckert continued, "Doug Carver, FOI president, is an outstanding executive who is largely responsible for FibreOptics International's quality reputation among customers. We look forward to working even closer with Doug and his team and to growing both businesses."

Carver said, "Both FibreOptics International and Fiberstars have reputations for leadership and high quality. By combining the talents and resources of the best companies in fiber optic signs, special effects and lighting, we look forward to increasing the business by delivering better products and service to our customers."

Fiberstars is the world's leading supplier of fiber optic lighting, with products designed, manufactured and marketed in the commercial lighting, sign and swimming pool and spa markets.
