Filter media specialist FiberMark, Brattleboro, V1 recently reported fourth quarter results for 2000. Annual sales increased 9.3% to $355 million compared to $325 million during the previous year. Net earnings for the year totaled $12 million, a decline from $16 million during the year-earlier period. Filter media sales in 2000 increased 3.2% to $104 million from $100 million in 1999. Net sales for the quarter were $84.5 million compared to $91.6 million for the fourth quarter of 1999, a 7.8% decline. Filter media sales for the fourth quarter were $24.1 million versus $25.9 million during the comparable 1999 quarter, a 6.9% drop. The company reported steady conditions in its North American filter business overall and partially attributed its weak results to the effects of a slowing economy and pointed to less visible results in the German market. Gradual markets hare gains in certain growing markets helped to offset the impact of any economic slowing in Europe, according to the company.
