Fiat Chrysler, a company formed by the reorganisation of Fiat and Chrysler, is investing BRL200m in research and development centre in Recife, the capital of Pernambuco state in northeast Brazil.

The facility is based in Recife's technology park, Porto Digital, and is the company's first such facility in Latin America. It will concentrate on engine and transmission controlling software, known as powertrain.

The centre is likely to generate 500 jobs in total over the next few years. Partnerships with eight local universities have also been agreed.
