Festival to be held at Blaenau.
GWYL Cerdd Dant Cymru, Wales' largest one cultural festival, is to be held in Blaenau Ffestiniog.
A public meeting in the town agreed to invite the festival to the town in 2018.
It will be the first time in the Cerdd Dant Society's 80-year history that the festival, normally staged in November, will have been held in the former slate quarrying town Gwyl Cerdd Dant organiser John Eifion Jones attended the meeting and outlined to those present what hosting the festival would entail.
He said the event would give local businesses a boost with at least some of the competitors and officials requiring accomodation during the festival and others requiring food and other services.
Mr Jones added the date set for the festival was November 10, 2018 and that the ideal location had been identified as the hall at Ysgol y Moelwyn.
A proclamation concert would be held next year.
The festival costs about PS40,000 to stage and this would need to be raised locally. The meeting agreed to call another public meeting at Ysgol y Moelwyn on Wednesday, June 22 at 7.30pm.
It is likely various committees would be set up and officials elected during this meeting.
Alternating between North and South Wales this year's festival is being staged at Pwllheli and at Llandyssul next year.
