Feeling so nam lucky; SUNDAY PEOPLE * JANUARY 19, 2020 email travel@people.co.uk p pTravel GREAT.

The Crowne Plaza Hanoi, Vietnam THE WELCOME I arrived before the room was ready so was shown to the Club Lounge, where I was able to enjoy great views of the Hanoi skyline. THE NEIGHBOURHOOD Located in the west of Hanoi, the hotel is only a half an hour drive to the airport and to the city's tourist hub, the Old Quarter. The city's two main museums are also a short drive away, and large shopping malls are also on the doorstep.

THE ROOM My 19th floor room had a great view over the city and had a modern feel, with tan marble and dark wood panelling.

HOTEL The glass wall leading into the en suite bathroom also made the room feel very spacious. And the impressive bathtub was the main feature. THE FOOD Guests are spoilt for choice between the hotel's two restaurants, Little Korea and Lackah, plus a coffee shop and pool bar.

inspector The culinary highlight of my stay was the Korean beef bulgogi - a fiery barbecue beef. I enjoyed the fact that the restaurant is set away from the main hotel building in the quiet ambience of the library.

THE SERVICE The staff went out of their way to make my stay more comfortable, including preparing me a takeaway breakfast for my early start to the airport.

THE SCENE If you want to experience Hanoi like a proper local, hop on the back of a Grab motorbike, the city's equivalent of Uber, to visit the sights.

But be warned, Vietnamese driving is chaotic, so this is not for the faint hearted. If you are after a calmer way to explore and get around, then the hotel concierge will organise you a taxi.

LOVED The loo with a view. HATED It's a shame that the pool is located between several tall buildings so it only has sunlight for a few hours.

BOTTOM LINE Rooms start from PS140.72. CHECK IT OUT crowneplaza.com.
