Feel the need for tweed as the seasons change.

Byline: INTERIORS With creative stylist Claire Hornby In association with

AS the autumnal months draw closer, thoughts of cosying up by a roaring fire with a hot drink in hand make a welcome change.

One of our new looks that celebrates the changing of the seasons at Barker and Stonehouse is Tweed with a Twist - a modern interpretation of traditional tweed, reinvented with sophisticated furniture and quirky accessories.

As the name suggests, the fabric of tweed forms the foundation for this look. Gone are the days of tweed being thought of as dour and course, today Harris Tweed has all the qualities of a truly 21st century fabric, being soft and tactile, warm, colourful and sustainably made, while still retaining its heritage.

Harris Tweed is the only fabric produced in commercial quantities by truly traditional methods, anywhere in the world. Its subtle designs and complex natural shades are partly due to the fact that the wool is dyed before it is spun, enabling a multitude of colours to be blended into the yarn. From Plain Twills and traditional Herringbones to more contemporary and unconventional patterns, tweed offers a myriad of possibilities, making it the perfect upholstery choice for sofas, armchairs, footstools and dining chairs.

The stylish Harris Tweed Bowmore grand sofa and armchair from Barker and Stonehouse feature an Edwardian style, with elegant curves and simple lines. Made exclusively for Tetrad from pure virgin 100% wool, this range of furniture is enduringly stylish and has been tested to over 50,000 rubs to ensure it lasts a lifetime.

Naturally soft, the tweed is washed, beaten and pressed to ensure the smoothest possible weave which is both warm in the winter and cool in the summer.

Mixing and matching your tweed furniture adds a playful twist and sense of style - I've added the Harris Tweed Mackenzie armchair into the mix with the Bowmore sofa and armchair. It adds a different height and finish which provides a contemporary edge to a living room.

Traditional rugs such as the Living Treasures Persian rug add warmth in colour and pattern and make a great investment - their classic design gives a timeless quality that is key to this trend.

Be playful with your accessories with a mix of curios and vintage treasures such as old cameras and clocks, maps, globes and hunting lodge paraphernalia for a quirky, eclectic style. The Stag Statue with its bronze finish would look great in this setting, as would the Butterfly Species framed prints with their understated colours and frames.
