Federated Employees Brown Bag It To Fight Hunger.

CINCINNATI--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 4, 2003

To kick off its annual Bag Hunger food drive, Partners In Time employee volunteers of Federated Department Stores, Inc. -- including Bloomingdale's, Macy's, The Bon Marche, Burdines, Goldsmith's, Lazarus, Rich's-Macy's, Bloomingdale's by Mail and macy's.com and its support divisions -- will be brown bagging their lunch on June 5th to fight hunger. Federated is joining forces with America's Second Harvest, the largest domestic hunger-relief charity in the United States, in recognition of National Hunger Awareness Day (NHAD). Tools of the Trade(R) brand cookware provided the brown lunch bags so employees could bring their lunch to work.

Federated's employee efforts will provide a direct benefit to some of the 23 million people -- including 9 million American children -- served by America's Second Harvest and other food networks. The problem of children's hunger is more acute during summer months when children don't have access to school-based meals. Instead, America's Second Harvest, its network of pantries, soup kitchens and shelters see an increase in demand for its services. On June 5, Federated will join with thousands of hunger-relief agencies, public interest groups, government leaders and corporate and individual donors to focus the nation's attention on the problems facing these hungry children and their families.

In 2002, Partners in Time employee volunteers collected food and donations equivalent to 1.5 million pounds of food or three million meals for hungry children, according to Jean Reisinger Coggan, corporate manager of the program. "Since 1989, Federated's grassroots employee volunteer program, Partners in Time, has given nearly 900,000 hours of service to communities from coast to coast. To 'Bag Hunger,' each division's store and support location -- more than 460 in all -- have partnered with local hunger relief organizations which impact their own home communities," she added.
