Federal Express facility underway.

More than 125 people gathered for a ceremony marking the commencement of construction of a 37,000-square-foot Federal Express 'city station' at the International Trade Center (ITC) in Mt. Olive, New Jersey.

The new distribution center for documents and packages will be located in the commerce park section of the International Trade Center and will serve the western half of Morris County, all of Sussex County, and a portion of Warren County. This facility replaces a smaller building located nearby in Netcong, New Jersey.

Federal Express is the world's largest express transportation company, providing fast and reliable services for important documents, packages, and freight. The company delivers more than 1.7 million items in 184 countries each working day, employs more that 93,000 people, has a fleet of 456 aircraft and 31,000 computer dispatched vehicles. Federal Express reported revenues of $7.6 billion for its fiscal year ending May 31, 1992.

Participants in the program included: New Jersey State Department of Commerce Commissioner Barbara McConnell; John Buhr, senior manager, field services/properties Federal Express; William J. Maloney, president, Rockefeller Center Development Corporation; the Honorable James Schiess, mayor of Mount Olive Township; and Leslie E. Smith Jr., executive director of the International Trade Center.

The International Trade Center-is being developed primarily on a build-to-suit basis and is currently the location of a number of multinational corporations including: Seiko Corporation of America, BMW of North America, Calvin Nein Cosmetics company, United Parcel Service, Dow Corning, and Shell Oil Company. BASF Corporation is presently constructing its northeast regional and corporate headquarters at the ITC Office Park. Occupancy of the headquarters is scheduled for August of 1994.
