Fears grow for missing beach tot, 5.

A massive air and sea search was underway last night for a young girl who is missing, feared drowned after being cut off by the tide on a holiday beach.

Two men who had been walking with the five-year-old child were winched to safety by a helicopter.

But she was left stranded as a heavy swell closed in at Sandymouth Bay, near Bude, Cornwall.

Rescuers could not say how she became separated from the men, one of whom was believed to be her mum's boyfriend.

A coastguard spokes-man said hopes were fading of finding the girl alive.

The men were recovering in hospital last night. A woman, thought to be the mum, was also safe.
