Father arrested over 'attempted murder' of baby.

A FATHER has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, after he was struck by a car while carrying his nine-month-old son.

The 23-year-old and his baby boy were hit by a red Peugeot on Birchwood Way in Warrington at around 9.23am yesterday. His child received minor injuries to the head and has been kept in hospital for observation.

They were both taken to Warrington Hospital for examination.

A 46-year-old driver of the Peugeot, who was a local man, was not injured in the collision.

Detectives are appealing for witnesses into the incident and the father of the baby is currently in custody.

A Cheshire Police spokeswoman said: "The full circumstances surrounding the incident are being investigated and the male who was the father of the baby boy has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder."

Roads closed around the scene of the crash while the area was examined and reopened at 12.45pm. Anyone with information is asked to contact Cheshire Police on 0845 458 000 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
