Fat tires in Colorado.

* April 26-30. Join some 1,000 mountain bikers for races and guided rides this month at the fifth annual Fat Tire Festival in Fruita, Colorado (near Grand Junction). Expert trails snake down canyons, sometimes requiring steep portages down snowmelt waterfalls, but there are gentler trails for novices. On Saturday riders show off at the bike rodeo that follows a pro race, and frothy Fat Tire ale is on tap from Colorado's New Belgium Brewery (800) 873-3068 or www.gj.net/[tilde]edge.
