Fast track to fantasy.

THE speed at which George Osborne's Budget unravelled sets a new record for Chancellors of the Exchequer.

No sooner had he sat down than Tory chairman Grant Shapps was devising his patronising "they" advert about hardworking people, beer and bingo, unintentionally reinforcing how the Conservative leadership peers down its nose at the working people they lord it over.

Then along came Steve Webb, the Pensions Minister, suggesting the elderly are so wealthy they could buy a Lamborghini with a pension pot to enjoy their later years. Webb, a Liberal Democrat, is evidently as criminally out of touch with his reality as his arrogant Tory colleagues.

Governing for a well-heeled few and neglecting the majority was the spur for a Budget which shows why the Conservative-Liberal Dem coalition combines contempt with incompetence. Britain deserves better than the ivory-tower ConDems.
