Fast food's never been so calhorrific.

IT was hard to know whether to be revolted or impressed as competitive eaters crammed mountains of food down their mouths as quickly as possible.

Battle Of The Super Eaters: 3,000 Calories a Minute on C4 was a strangely fascinating insight into the world's fastest growing "sport."

In America super eating is a massive (pardon the pun) spectator sport.

But I was surprised to discover that it's taking off here in Britain.

On Thursday we met some hopefuls who are extremely hungry for success. Leah Shutkever, 28, can eat 12 Krispy Kreme donuts in 72 seconds or an entire pizza in under a minute but has a 28 inch waist.

And Adam Moran, 33 - the UK's number one competitive eater - can put away 10lbs of grub in under an hour.

I kept thinking about the damage they could be doing - yet couldn't stop watching.

It's grossly compelling.
