Fashion academy; Fancy looking like a celeb sashaying down the red carpet? With the British Academy Scotland Awards on Sunday, we take a look at the hottest trends gracing this year's award ceremonies - and show how they can be translated into your wardrobe just in time for the Christmas party season...

Black is back Ava sequin dress, PS85, from Monsoon The black dress is back with a bang, but with a twist - frocks adorned with sequins, bold accessories, sheer and leather panels are where it's at. The 'LBD' is a fashion essential, but it doesn't have to be boring. Try exposed zips, asymmetrical cuts or jewels.

Peplum perfect Marisa sweater, PS79, and Chelsea skirt, PS159, from Hobbs Structured peplum dresses are still going strong and are great for accentuating your best assets.

Tales of the Orient Oriental cherry blossom dress, PS169, from House of Fraser This Asian-influenced style, with kimono detailing and traditional motifs, is a great way to give your wardrobe colour and elegance.

Retro glamour Cream off-the-shoulder dress, PS30, from Tesco F&F Limited Edition This look is seriously feminine and sexy. It's all about keeping everything ultra-glamorous, sleek and sophisticated - like a Hollywood starlet from the 1940s. Think figure-hugging dresses and elegant jewellery, paired with sleek hair, flawless ivory skin and classic red lips. This trend is a refreshing break from all the wacky outfits (a la Gaga) that have dominated the red carpet. The look is harder to tone down for every day, as it's all about the va va voom.
