COLIN Farrell has opened up about the "amazing" moment his eldest son took his first steps.

The star described it as "humbling" as he had been told James, now 13, may never be able to walk.

Colin's son from his relationship with model Kim Bordenave has Angelman syndrome - a rare genetic disorder that affects speech and mobility.

The Dubliner, 41, said: "When James took his first steps a couple weeks short of his fourth birthday, it was pretty amazing and humbling to see.

"People talk about the children taking the first step, it's obviously a monumental moment and it's been represented in film.

"But to be told your child may never take the first step and then see those first steps is just kind of a different sport all together."

Farrell also has a sevenyear-old son Henry from his relationship with his Ondine co-star Alicja Bachleda-Curus.

Speaking about raising his sons last year, Farrell said it took him a few years to adjust to fatherhood.

He added: "It changes you but you have to decide to let it change you.

"James was about two or three by the time I went, 'Why am I trying to not let this inform how my life is lived now? I should allow it to change me'."
