Farm Bureau convention in Hot Springs this week.

Gov.-elect Mike Beebe will be the opening speaker at Arkansas Farm Bureau's 72nd annual convention that will be held Nov. 29-Dec. 1 at Hot Springs Convention Center.

The Farm Bureau will honor Sens. Blanche Lincoln and Mark Pryor and U.S. Reps. Marion Berry, John Boozman and Mike Ross as Friends of Farm Bureau, presented annually to members of Congress whose voting records and other actions best support Farm Bureau's agenda during the year.

About 1,200 Farm Bureau members are expected at the convention.

"We're especially looking forward to hearing what Mike Beebe has to say," says Stanley Reed of Marianna, president of the Farm Bureau in the state. "He has worked closely with Farm Bureau throughout his years in the Legislature, and he has appeared at many of our meetings, local and statewide."

Other speakers will include Richard Bell, Arkansas secretary of agriculture, who will address the Public Policy Conference; humorist Dale Henry, whose topic will be "How to Get Your Whack Back"; Dave Miller and Chad Martin of Iowa Farm Bureau Federation, who will discuss IAFBF's Carbon Credit Aggregation Program; Troy Odom of RC&D Inc., who will speak on the Noah Project and poultry litter gasification; and others.

Almost 350 voting delegates from the state's 76 county Farm Bureaus will vote on roughly 500 policy recommendations authored in the counties.
