Farida Rashid elected President IWCCI unopposed.

Islamabad -- Noted female entrepreneur of the twin cities Farida Rashid has been elected President of the Islamabad Women's Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IWCCI) for the year 2012-2013.

A meeting of the IWCCI office bearers and members was held here today with founder president IWCCI Samina Fazil in chair.

Farida Rashid was elected unopposed as President IWCCI while Mumtaz Akhtar has been elected as Vice President.

New Executive Committee has also been elected which include Parveen Khan, Rubina Nasir, Sarosh Rahim, Samina Fazil, Munaza Arif, Sajda Anwar, Samina Akhter, Shireen Javed, Shamim Aftab and Rizwana Asif.

After election Farida Rashid thanked participants for posing confidence in her. She said that she will try best to serve the female entrepreneurs. She paid rich tributes to outgoing president Alia Akram and lauded the services of Samina Fazil spanned over a decade.

Pakistan can only become a developed nation when women are encouraged and their skills utilised, she said.

Mumtaz Akhtar, newly-elected VP said that we will try to increase economic opportunities for women through different capacity building initiatives. Safeguarding the rights of women and uplifting their status is our responsibility, she said.

Speaking on the occasion Samina Fazil said that gender equality is the key to progress as majority of Pakistani population comprise of women.

She said that all the government departments and private sector institutions can play a very important role in strengthening women's economic capacities which can guarantee accelerated economic growth and poverty reduction.

Violation of rights, suppression of opportunities, ignoring women's contributions to the economy, absence of proper gender responsive law and other discriminations are keeping country underdeveloped, she observed.
