PETER FOX struck at the double to help the Cats notch their first home win for three months.

The former England winger grabbed a touchdown in each half, and also proved his value in defence with a try-saving tackle on Mikael Simon.

Man of the match Tim Smith, whose tactical kicking proved crucial, said: "We set it up in the first half and knew we had to be tough.

"We needed the points, but we all played well, although I thought Dean Collis was the best on the field."

The Dragons, already without nine regulars, lost Frederic Vaccari after the first tackle, but led with a converted Kevin Larroyer try. But the Cats rallied to go in front 18-6 at the break thanks to touchdowns from Fox, Danny Kirmond and Ben Cockayne.

Dean Collis slipped a backdoor pass to Fox to start the Wakefield revival.

Kirmond went over from Kyle Wood's kick and then Cockayne was quickest to react when Wood's grubber rebounded off the post.

Lee Smith created the overlap for Fox's second try soon after the restart before landing his second penalty with the Dragons paying the price for poor discipline.

Kirmond added his second from a Cockayne break before Larroyer's reply, but it was too late to prevent the Cats, who lost Aussie prop Justin Poore to an ankle injury, leapfrogging Widnes into 10th spot.

WAKEFIELD: Tries: Fox 2, Kirmond 2 Cockayne Goals: Smith 5.

CATALANS: Tries: Larroyer 2 Goals: Bosc 2.
