Family ashes left with undertakers for 20 years.

FUNERAL directors in Coventry and Leamington are appealing for families to claim the ashes of their loved ones which have been stored for 20 years.

The cremated remains have been kept by Dignity funeral directors Grimmet & Timms, Earlsdon, HJ Dawson, in Leamington and WG Rathbone, in Leamington and Warwick. Funeral manger Angela Donnelly said: "All of these cremated remains have been carefully stored by Dignity funeral directors for more than 20 years.

"Often at the time of bereavement the family is unsure what to do with the cremated remains because they haven't discussed it - so they are left with the funeral director.

"We would ask any family for whom we have been keeping cremated remains for over 20 years to contact us so that they can be returned to them."

The funeral directors have attempted to contact families but have been unsuccessful. They are now appealing for anyone who may not have claimed their relative's ashes to contact them as soon as possible.

Any cremated remains over 20 years old not claimed will be dispersed at the Westall Park natural burial ground in Redditch on Thursday March 29.

Angela added: "It is very common for cremated remains to be left with funeral directors. However, we thought that after such a long time we should have a simple, dignified ceremony for them if we cannot contact the families."
