Families worse off.

Don't have children if you want a decent living standard.

The tax burden of families with children has increased at four times the rate compared to single people over the last 50 years, according to sociologist Patricia Morgan.

In a pamphlet, Are Families Affordable?, she argues that a man with two children is only pounds 4.97 a week better off than a bachelor.

Two-parent families also fare worse than single parents and pensioners when it comes to tax allowances.
