Families still throw away 20% of food; WASTE.

ALMOST a fifth of our weekly food shop gets thrown in the bin, despite more than half of what's wasted being fit to eat.

Homes waste pounds 12billion of groceries a year - pounds 680 for every family with children.

The 7.2 million tons is enough to fill Wembley Stadium nine times.

Rising prices have led to a reduction of 1.1 million tons in three years - 13 % and enough to fill Wembley once - waste group Wrap found.

But, because food now costs more, the value of the food we waste is the same.

Experts believe the waste reduction has been down to shoppers on a budget planning more carefully. Wrap said: "The fall in food waste has saved the carbon equivalent of taking a million cars off the road for a year."
