GAGA was catapulted to stardom by the success of her debut album - titled The Fame.

She worked with several producers on the work, including RedOne, Martin Kierszenbaum and Rob Fusari, before it was released on August 19, 2008.

The songs are mostly inspired by Gaga's fascination with the notion of fame. They deal with the highs and lows of a rich and famous lifestyle as she imagined it - and before she knew the reality.

With catchy tunes the album owed a lot musically to 80s electropop and synthpop.

It received mostly rave reviews internationally and went to No1 in the UK, Canada, Austria, Germany, Switzerland and Ireland. In the US The Fame peaked at No2 on the Billboard 200 and topped Billboard's Dance/ Electronic Albums chart. Around the world the album has sold more than 12 million copies.

The first two singles from The Fame - Just Dance and Poker Face - were both massive hits. Just Dance topped the charts in six countries, including the Billboard Hot 100 in the US.

Poker Face hit No1 in almost all the major musical markets. It became her second consecutive No1 on the Hot 100 chart.

Other singles released includes Eh, Eh (Nothing Else I Can Say), LoveGame, and Paparazzi.

Gaga promoted the album by performing the songs in a series of live appearances, including her first headlining The Fame Ball Tour.

The Fame is featured as a bonus disc on the deluxe edition of Gaga's EP The Fame Monster.

Tracks from it and the album itself have been picking up awards almost from the month it was released.

There were a total of six Grammy Award nominations, including the Album of the Year.

It went on to win the Grammy for Best Electronic/ Dance Album.

The single Poker Face won Best Dance Recording. The LP also earned Gaga a Best International Album gong at the 2010 Brit awards.
