False accuser of blasphemy should be punished like a blasphemer.

ISLAMABAD -- The Senate Standing Committee on Interior suggested on Tuesday that the one who makes false accusation of blasphemy should be handed the same punishment as that of a blasphemer.

The Senate Standing Committee on Interior held a meeting today which was presided by Rehman Malik. During the meeting, RPO Mardan informed the committee that the university staff was complicit in Mashal Khan's murder.

RPO Mardan Alam Shinwari said that pressure would not be accepted on the issue of Mashal Khan's murder. Rehman Malik stated that there was pressure on him not to take up this issue in the committee but he had not backed down.

'Death is in the hands of Allah alone,' he said.

Rehman Malik said that a mob cannot become the judge, jury and executioner in such sensitive matters. He stated that whoever make false accusation of blasphemy on another person, he should be handed the same punishment that a blasphemer is given.

MQM's Senator Tahir Mashhadi suggested that the Mashal Khan murder case should be tried by the military. Senator Javed Abbasi suggested that those who had murdered Mashal Khan should be punished more severely than even terrorists.

The committee also suggested placing a ban on the graphic video that showed Mashal's corpse which was doing the rounds on social media. Fateha was also offered for the slain student in the meeting.
