Falken and a Japanese professor called []; ON THE ROAD.

Byline: Colin Goodwin

Falken and a Japanese professor called Hiroshi Tani are working on a technology that will enable a car tyre to generate electricity as it rotates. The prototype tyre is called the Energy Harvester and inside it is two layers of rubber each covered by an electrode, along with a negatively charged film that interfaces with a positively charged film.

When fixed to the inside of a conventional tyre carcass, it generates electricity as the tyre deforms during rotation.

The electricity could be used to power tyrepressure monitoring systems or other low-powered systems. And you thought tyres were just round and black.
