Fahy Derby squad hit by injury doubts.
Rumours spread yesterday that a significant number of the Tyrur contenders had picked up injuries of varying degrees in the first round.
However, PJ Fahy confirmed yesterday afternoon that two will probably not run, also advising that a number of his other runners will be undergoing treatment right up to race time tomorrow and on Saturday.
He said yesterday: "It's been a dreadful few days and most of my Derby runners have problems. Most of the injuries are down to that terrible deluge they had in Dublin on Saturday evening. The track is usually in great order, but it was very heavy after all the rain and we were just unfortunate.
"Many of the dogs are on the machine and will continue to have treatment up to their race day. At this stage I'd say that Tyrur Sycamore and Tyrur Columbo will both be out.
"Sycamore has sprained a wrist and a hock, while Columbo has a bad gash at the back of the wrist and has stitches in it, which would open again if he ran. I have a big worry about Big Mike, who's aggravated the hip muscle which affected him over the past few weeks, but would hope to run him as he'd have nine days to recover if he qualified.
"Lucky, Richie, Quinn, Lohan, Irena and Domingo all have problems of varying degrees, but I'd be hoping most of them will respond to treatment."
While reigning champion McGuigan has a new track leg problem it is not of any great concern and he is certain to go to traps for the concluding heat 16 on Saturday.
If the dogs react to the treatment it looks as though a dozen of the Tyrurs will race.
Tyrur Sycamore's absence from heat five would make that a four-dog race as Paddy The Pricer (lame) was withdrawn yesterday morning.
Heat two will be a five-dog affair with Loughview Gem (lame) withdrawn, while Tyrur Columbo's absence from heat 11 would also reduce that to five runners.
