Facebook to shift from physical gift offerings to cards.

Washington, Aug. 26 ( ANI ): Social media giant Facebook has reportedly decided to end its physical gift offering feature and introduce gift cards.

The site is pulling the plug on its physical gift offerings which allows users to purchase tangible goods such as stuffed animals, flowers and wine in less than a year after its launch and instead add more merchants to its Facebook card which is a reusable gift card.

According to Mashable, the Facebook card allows users to keep monetary balances from different retailers which mean one can have 100 dollars at Sephora and 8.25 dollars at Jamba Juice on the same card.

Facebook said that the move will cut down on delivery and management costs and also in tune with what the site's users want as about 80 percent of purchased gifts made via Facebook have been gift cards.

The report added that some merchants who were only offering physical goods on the site will now take digital codes for payment. ( ANI )
