Facebook 'porn' pictures man is praised by judge; Loner who put girls' photos on adult site doing well on probation.

A JUDGE yesterday hailed a man who uploaded 19 girls' Facebook profile pictures to a porn site for the progress he is making.

Judge Patrick Durcan told 22-year-old Evan Meehan: "I want to compliment you on the work being done. I'm sure it is quite tedious - it is for your benefit and for society's."

He made his comments after reading a Probation Report on the Shannon man at Ennis District Court.

At the last hearing in February, Judge Durcan said Meehan must get professional assistance for issues he has to deal with.

Addressing him at the time he said: "I am putting you on a particular course of action. I want to see that it is complied with and complied with seriously.

"If it is not, I will have no hesitation in imposing a prison sentence. It is a matter for you."

In the case, Meehan of Dernish Lawn, Shannon, Co Clare, pleaded guilty to uploading 30 photos of local girls to a porn site between October 2013 and June 2014.

The charges relates to 19 girls, 17 of whom were from Shannon and the others from Sixmilebridge and Newmarket-on-Fergus.

All were Facebook friends of Meehan while most went to the same secondary school.

A number of captions tagged to the photos described the girls engaging in invented sexual acts with their fathers.

The offences took place when Meehan was aged 19 and 20 and came to light after a number of the victims presented themselves to Shannon Garda station on June 30, 2014.

Meehan had no previous convictions.

His solicitor Stiofan Fitzpatrick previously told the court: "He was 19 at the time of the offences. He was someone who wasn't extroverted.

"He was very much introverted and during formative years in school, he would describe himself as being very much on his own and being a loner."

Mr Fitzpatrick said Meehan has attended counselling sessions.

Judge Durcan said his total co-operation with gardai and having no previous convictions are very commendable.

He adjourned the case to November 22 and remanded the accused on continuing bail to that date.
