PALMDALE - Hot soup, barbecue and turkey dinners are on the menu at special events this weekend.

Today, there are two boutiques people can attend to purchase early Christmas gifts.

The Quartz Hill Woman's Club will sell craft items and baked goods from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the recreation building at George Lane Park, 5520 W. Ave. L-8. Proceeds will benefit a scholarship program and other community projects. For more information, call (661) 270-9642.

Littlerock Presbyterian Church, 7854 Pearblossom Highway, will offer clam chowder, and chicken noodle, ham and pea, and vegetable beef soup along with garlic bread and home-baked goods for sale from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. today. Handcrafted items as well as farm produce will be available for purchase. Proceeds will benefit the church's Mariner Group, which uses the money for local projects.

On Sunday, the Antelope Valley Mounted Unit, headquartered at the Palmdale sheriff's station, will hold its fourth annual Don Self Memorial trail ride and barbecue at the Lazy T Ranch, 4218 Elizabeth Lake Road in Palmdale.

The ride, named for a Palmdale sheriff's deputy who died of cancer, will begin at 9 a.m., with lunch at noon. The cost of admission is a $10 donation to help the Antelope Valley Volunteer Mounted Unit buy safety equipment and training supplies. For more information, call (661) 267-4386.

And finally, St. Elizabeth's Mission will hold its annual turkey dinner from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday at 13845 Johnson Road in Lake Hughes. Baked goods and boutique items will be offered for sale as well. The cost is $8 for adults, $6.50 for seniors age 55 and up, and $4 for children age 10 and under ($2.50 for children who help with the dinner).
