FUND-RAISER SCHEDULED FOR CASINO WORKERS WHO WALKED ACROSS THE DESERT
AFL-CIO Secretary-Treasurer Thomas Donahue will be one of the first to personally shake the hands of the 10 "permanently replaced" Frontier Hotel workers who completed a 300-mile walk across the desert at a Jan. 18 fund-raiser at the Musicians Hall in Hollywood, Calif., from 6-9 p.m.
Tk from Las Vegas on Jan. 4. They endured rainy weather and blistered feet to call attention to their four-month labor dispute in which they lost their pension and health benefits. They also brought attention to the need to pass S.55, the Workplace Bill, which would outlaw the practice of hiring "permanent replacement" workers during a strike.
Joining the union movement with their messages of solidarity and support are actors Ed Asner, Joe Spano, Richard Masur and Mike Farrell. The Geer Singers will provide entertainment.
