FUNCTIONS OF GENERAL DYNAMICS SERVICES COMPANY TO BE REALIGNED
ST. LOUIS, Nov. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- General Dynamics Corporation (NYSE: GD) announced today that it intends to restructure its General Dynamics Services Company by reassigning its functions to separate operations within the company's Land Systems, Fort Worth Aircraft and Space Systems operations.
The realignment continues the company's efforts to more closely couple its operating assets and units with customer needs, enhancing the company's ability to produce consistently high-quality products and to provide full-service, life-cycle product support, according to Jim Turner, executive vice president - Marine, Land Systems and Services Group. "The new structure aligns technical services with the products they support," he said. "By eliminating the need for customers to deal with more than one General Dynamics entity, both we and the customer save time and money, and achieve more effective, better coordinated service."
General Dynamics Services Company furnishes annually about $200 million of worldwide technical services, products and support to company divisions, the U.S. military and allied nations. More than 2,000 employees located at 45 sites worldwide support armored vehicles such as the M60 and M1 series Abrams main battle tanks and Fox NBC reconnaissance vehicles, Navy and Air Force aircraft such as the F-5 and F-16, and space vehicle programs such as Atlas/Centaur and Titan/Centaur.
Under the realignment, armored vehicle support, involving about 1,000 employees, will continue to operate as a separate business area under the management of General Dynamics' Land Systems Division. Aircraft support, involving about 1,000 employees as well, will be realigned with the Fort Worth Aircraft Products Group. The Services Company's St. Louis headquarters will transfer its functions to the appropriate divisions over the next few months as the Services Company phases out of independent operation.
