FULTON OURSLER, JR. NAMED EDITOR-IN-CHIEF OF GUIDEPOSTS MAGAZINE
CARMEL, N.Y., June 19 /PRNewswire/ -- John F. Temple, president and CEO of Guideposts Associates, Inc. ("GAI"), today announced the appointment of Fulton Oursler, Jr. as editor-in-chief of Guideposts magazine. Oursler replaces Van Varner, who has been named editorial director.
Oursler comes to Guideposts from a long and distinguished career at Reader's Digest where he last served as deputy editor-in-chief. The author of numerous books and magazine articles, Oursler has been the editor of such literary lights as James Michener, Alex Haley, Will and Ariel Durant, and Thomas Fleming.
"We're confident that, under Fulton's direction, Guideposts will continue to deliver the unique blend of practical help and good, solid editorial content that's made it so successful in the past," Temple said.
A graduate of Georgetown University, Oursler is married, the father of five children, and makes his home in Nyack, N.Y.
Varner, who has served Guideposts as editor for 11 years, has moved to the post of editorial director for Guideposts Associates. He now holds responsibility for directing the book department, the development of new publishing programs, and the editorial coordination of Guideposts' many ancillary products. He will continue as editorial director of Faith 'n Stuff, a bi-monthly magazine for children he was instrumental in creating two years ago.
A resident of New York, Varner has written a number of books on subjects ranging from religion to thoroughbred horseracing. He is co-founder of two publishing firms -- Attention, Inc., specializing in media directories for the public relations industry, and Chosen Books.
Guideposts was founded in 1945 by Dr. and Mrs. Norman Vincent Peale, who today serve as its co-publishers. The 48-page, full-color monthly magazine takes no advertising and features first-person, true-life stories. Sold by paid subscription only, Guideposts has a circulation of 3.8 million and a readership of over 16 million.
