FULTON BANK NAMES SPERRY CHAIRMAN AND CEO, SMITH PRESIDENT
LANCASTER, Pa., Oct. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- James K. Sperry has been named chairman and chief executive officer of Fulton Bank effective at year end, according to an announcement by Rufus A. Fulton Jr., president of the bank's parent company, Fulton Financial Corp. (NASDAQ-NMS: FULT).
Sperry will succeed Robert D. Garner, who is relinquishing the chairman and CEO responsibilities at the end of the year.
 R. Scott Smith Jr. will be Sperry's successor as Fulton Bank's president. Smith will also become chief operating officer and a member of the bank's board of directors.
Sperry will continue as an executive vice president and director of Fulton Financial Corp., a $2.1 billion multi-bank holding company.
Fulton said the appointment of Sperry and Smith completes the executive changes initiated by Garner's earlier announcement that he will step down as Fulton Financial's CEO on Dec. 31. As previously reported, Garner will remain as chairman of the holding company and Fulton will become CEO.
Sperry joined Fulton Bank in 1972 as senior vice president and was promoted to executive vice president in 1973. He was named a director in 1984 and became president of the $1.2 billion financial institution in 1987.
Smith joined Fulton Bank in 1978 as director of personnel. He was promoted to vice president in 1980 and two years later was named senior vice president/commercial lending.
He was made a member of Fulton Bank's senior management team in 1985 and was promoted to executive vice president in 1987. He became senior executive vice president in 1990.
