FUJITSU-ICL SYSTEMS AND AW COMPUTER SYSTEMS TO COMPLETE SOFTWARE LINKING ISS400 SYSTEM WITH EXISTING POS TERMINALS

DALLAS and MOUNT LAUREL, N.J., July 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Fujitsu-ICL Systems, Inc., a unit of London-based ICL PLC, and AW Computer Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ-NMS: AWCSA) today jointly announced that they have entered into an agreement under which AW will complete AWare/ISS400 software to link Fujitsu-ICL's new ISS400 integrated store system with retailers' existing FJ-ICL T-2000 and T-2001 point-of-sale terminals.
The popular T-2000 and T-2001 electronic point-of-sale terminals are presently used in approximately 6,000 United States supermarkets. The AWare/ISS400 software enables these retailers to migrate to an FJ-ICL ISS400 open systems environment by integrating existing T-2000 and T-2001 POS terminals into a comprehensive information management framework.
"The retail industry, like other business sectors, is vitally concerned with the ability to protect present systems investments, while migrating toward completely integrated systems at the store, the enterprise and inter-enterprise levels," said Tom Juliano, vice president-marketing for Fujitsu-ICL Systems, Inc. "ISS400 provides the retailer a clear path to achieve vendor independence and seamless integrated systems."
"We are pleased to assist Fujitsu-ICL in providing compatibility between their new retail store system, ISS400, and a very large domestic population of installed POS terminals," said Nicholas Ambrus, chairman of AW Computer Systems, Inc. "We expect to install our joint system in pilot stores very quickly and begin delivering additional systems by the end of 1993."
Designed specifically for the food industry, ISS400 incorporates an open platform that accepts industry-standard hardware, 4GL (fourth generation) programming language and an extensive modular library of supermarket applications. The result is a fully scalable, single-source solution, as easily implemented in outlets with 100 checkout lanes as in those with less than 10.
