FTD: PROM SEASON IS IN FULL BLOOM
SOUTHFIELD, Mich., April 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Spring has arrived, and

so have the flurry of special dresses, new hairstyles, shining smiles and nervous butterflies that signal prom season is in full bloom.
This year, fresh flowers are also an important element for prom night, according to Florists' Transworld Delivery Association (FTD)(R).
"More than ever, young women are wearing contemporary 'body flowers' for proms and other special occasions just as they wear jewelry and other fashion accessories," said Peggy Doyle, FTD president and co-owner of Lynn Doyle Flowers in Memphis, Tenn.
"The corsage is no longer an imposing collection of large blossoms and bows. Rather, today's flowers are worn on the wrist, in the hair or attached to an evening bag or shawl, as well as on the bodice, neckline or sleeve. An the floral styles reflect and complement today's fashions. Florists can create everything from natural and garden party looks to sophisticated or 'cool,' fanciful designs."
Short, fun prom dresses of taffeta, tulle or sequins are often worn with long gloves. According to FTD floral designers, a wristlet of fresh flowers and color-coordinated ribbons can be the ideal accessory. This is also true for strapless dresses. Jewel tones, vivid brights and elegant shades of white and ivory are all popular wristlet choices.
For body-conscious dresses of spandex, lurex or cotton knit, a contemporary corsage of exotic blooms affixed to a tiny evening bag completes a striking ensemble.
With breezy, floral print garden party dresses, florists suggest floral sprays or garlands of spring flowers and baby's breath worn in the hair. A coordinating blossom and a "halo" of greenery helps to set off a lacy shawl.
A growing trend for Victorian fashions is complemented by a return to the tradition of hand-held nosegays or flowers worn to adorn necklines, sleeves or the waist. Pastel roses and other flowers, accessorized with lace and "ropes" of pearls complete the romantic look.
Don't be shy about giving your date some guidelines when he asks you about your floral preferences, advised FTD. Let him know the color and style of your dress, and your favorite choices or colors in flowers, as well as the type of body flowers you'd prefer, such as a wristlet or something for your hair or evening bag. These ideas will give him confidence when placing the order with the florist and also ensure that you'll both be delighted when he presents you with the flowers.
Be sure to consider his attire as well and order a stylish boutonniere for his lapel. Choices are varied, and your florist can assist you in selecting a style that suits his outfit and personality. You might also wish to coordinate his flowers with the color of your dress.
Not going to the prom with a date? Treat yourself to body flowers that will set the mood for a very special night.
The 25,000 FTD florists nationwide make it as easy as FTD for floral touches to ensure you will "bloom" on prom night.
