FSI INTERNATIONAL AND ITS EUROPEAN AFFILIATE, METRON SEMICONDUCTORS EUROPA, ANNOUNCE $3.1 MILLION ORDER FROM ERICSSON-SWEDEN

MINNEAPOLIS, May 18 /PRNewswire/ -- FSI International, Inc. (NASDAQ: FSII) and its European affiliate, Metron Semiconductors Europa, announced today that they have received a $3.1 million order from Ericsson-Sweden for POLARIS(R) Microlithography Clusters, Acid Spray Processors and Rinser/Dryers.
Tsviatko Ganev, vice-president of Ericsson Components AB, said, "This order demonstrates Ericsson's direction and commitment toward FSI for the future. We are confident that both FSI and Metron are as committed as Ericsson is to this partnership."
According to FSI Chairman Joel Elftmann, "This purchase marks the first major POLARIS order in Europe. With this order and yesterday's announcement that Texas Instruments has placed a multi-unit POLARIS order, FSI has received orders for more than 40 POLARIS Clusters in fiscal 1992 and 1993. We believe here are strong opportunities for POLARIS both domestically and internationally."
The POLARIS Microlithography Cluster, which sells for between $800,000 and $1.4 million, is an alternative to conventional track systems. The POLARIS system consists of a cluster of independent modules arranged around one or two cleanroom robots. The simplicity of design and its focus on processing reliability have allowed production systems to demonstrate world-class performance.
The Acid Spray Processing System, which sells for between $200,000 and $300,000, uses centrifugal spray technology to clean, etch and strip silicon wafers. All processing functions occur within the system's enclosed, nitrogen-purged environment. Spray processing systems are recognized for their high throughput and low production costs on a per wafer basis.
The FSI Rinser Dryer Systems, which sell for between $15,000 and $30,000, are available in several product models to accommodate single or multiple cassette processing. These systems are designed to provide efficient, cost effective de-ionized water rinsing and centrifugal spin drying of silicon wafers.
Metron Semiconductors Europa has an extensive sales and support organization with locations in Germany, England, Holland, France, Sweden, Scotland, Israel and Italy. In addition to FSI's line of products, Metron distributes and supports other semiconductor products and equipment throughout Europe.
FSI International is a leader in producing automated surface conditioning equipment for processing silicon wafers. The company develops, manufactures and markets spray processing systems, vapor phase processing systems, photoresist processing clusters and chemical management systems for use in the fabrication of advanced semiconductor integrated circuits. FSI's customers include semiconductor manufacturers located throughout North America, Europe, Japan and the Far East.
