FRUIT OF THE LOOM AND GOV. BRERETON C. JONES
ANNOUNCE 1,000 NEW JOBS IN KENTUCKY
CHICAGO, Oct. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Fruit of the Loom, Inc. (AMEX: FTL) and Gov. Brereton C. Jones announced today an investment of $12 million in three expansion projects that will create approximately 1,000 new jobs in the state of Kentucky.
Fruit of the Loom recently entered into a leasing agreement with the Princeton/Caldwell County Industrial Authority for an existing 55,000- square-foot facility to be used for cut, make and trim operations. Fruit of the Loom will make an investment of $5.7 million in the facility and new "state-of-the-art" equipment. The Commonwealth of Kentucky is providing $1 million in assistance through the use of state economic development funds. The company will hire 450 employees beginning next week for the planned commencement of operations at this Princeton facility in the second quarter of 1993.
In Campbellsville, Ky., the company recently completed renovations on a former Kmart building, a 45,000-square-foot facility, located near its existing operation there. Approximately 350 employees will be hired for cut, make and trim production, with the commencement of operations expected on or about Oct. 19, 1992.
Fruit of the Loom has also leased an existing facility in Franklin, Ky., for cut, make and trim operations. This 88,750-square-foot addition will employ 250 new workers by the end of 1992.
"We are very excited about the growth in Fruit of the Loom's manufacturing operations in the great state of Kentucky," said William Farley, chairman and chief executive officer of Fruit of the Loom. "With the growing demand for our entire product line, we are pleased to again look to the quality workforce and leadership the state has afforded us for many years," he added.
Gov. Brereton C. Jones said, "To have a major existing company like Fruit of the Loom continue to expand its operations represents success not only for the company, but for Kentucky's economy and employment opportunities for the people of this state. As our existing industries grow, communities like Campbellsville, Franklin and Princeton can grow, making the future brighter for all Kentuckians."
Fruit of the Loom, with its world headquarters in Bowling Green, Ky., employs over 10,000 workers in the state, including these newly announced positions. In addition to the recent expansion sites in Princeton, Campbellsville and Franklin, Fruit of the Loom has facilities in Frankfort, Jamestown, Greensburg and three in Bowling Green, Ky.
