FROX INC. AND LUCASFILM'S THX AUDIO DIVISION ANNOUNCE HOME LICENSING AGREEMENT

FROX INC. AND LUCASFILM'S THX AUDIO DIVISION
 ANNOUNCE HOME LICENSING AGREEMENT
LAS VEGAS, Jan. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Frox Inc. and the THX division of Lucasfilm released the details of their Home THX Audio program today. The Home THX Audio system was developed to maintain the artistic integrity of the theater experience created by film-makers in the dubbing room. Frox Inc. is a manufacturer of high-end home theater systems and distributor of interactive information and entertainment software.
Bud Myers, vice president of Sales and Marketing for Frox commented that, "We are delighted to join the high-caliber ranks of the THX licensees including Lexicon, Fosgate and Snell Acoustics. As a manufacturer of home theater systems, Home THX Audio, the industry standard, is an essential feature set for high-end performance." Availability is anticipated in the second quarter of 1992.
Frox adds value to the audio dimension of the home theater experience in three areas. First, all FroxSystem processing occurs entirely in the digital domain using 24 bit high-speed digital signal processors. Until now current market offerings incorporated analog circuitry in discrete portions of their processing capabilities; the FroxSystem processes all signals digitally. A proprietary technique developed by Frox called Digital Straight Line(TM) sustains a digital signal from the input source all the way to the speakers, whether analog or digital. Audio signals travel by fiber optic cable replacing traditional high-loss wiring schemes. Therefore, signal degradation is eliminated. Third, home users will have full control of the various Home THX Audio settings without the complexity posed by existing systems. Frox has developed a proprietary graphic on-screen user interface that is manipulated using the one-button remote control or FroxWand.
Myers said, "In addition to enhancing the audio elements of the home theater experience, our method of distribution is unique. Since the FroxSystem feature sets are software-based, Home THX Audio can be delivered via video cassette or over-the-air. Traditional hardware replacement will not be necessary." Owners of the FroxSystem are also subscribers to a series of home information and entertainment services via FroxCast. All information such as TV listings, CD library and movie libraries are encoded in the Vertical Blanking Interval and transmitted to the home.
Tony Grimani, director of the Home THX Audio licensing program commented that, "The THX Audio System is the standard in superior home theater presentation. High-end audio dealers insist on THX quality. Our partnership with Frox adds yet another dimension to the Home THX Audio."
Frox Inc. is an interactive information and entertainment company. The home theater system whose picture quality rivals that of HDTV, incorporates unsurpassed digital audio and unprecedented simplicity of operation using a one-button remote control. The FroxSystem is available throughout the United States and will be available in Canada in the second quarter of 1992. Four elements comprise the FroxSystem(TM) -- FroxVision(TM), FroxSound(TM), FroxControl(TM), and FroxCast(SM). Frox Inc. was founded in April of 1988. Austin Vanchieri, the former president of Xerox Information Products Division is the CEO and president. The company is located in Sunnyvale, Calif., and is funded by five private European investors.
